Biography

I am an Assistant Professor of Economics at the Manuel H. Johnson Center for Political Economy at Troy University in Troy, AL.

I received my Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University in May, 2011. Peter J. Boettke chaired my dissertation, "
Heterogeneity and Exchange: La Convivencia," and Peter T. Leeson and Richard E.Wagner also were on my committee. I received
the 2010 Don Lavoie Memorial Graduate Essay Award for the first chapter of my dissertation, "Leveraging Reputation: Guidaticums in Medieval Spain."

I was raised in Midland, MI, where I also did my undergraduate at Northwood University, receiving a BBA in Economics, Banking & Finance and Business Management, and also received the Ludwig von Mises Award, given to the university's most outstanding economics student, as well as the Arthur E. Turner Award, Northwood University's highest honor. During my undergrad I worked as a research assistant at the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, as well as at Wolverine Bank as a Commercial Credit Analyst.

Outside of academics, I enjoy hockey, craft beer, weight-lifting, running, camping, and spending time with my amazing fiance Jessica, family, and friends.

I proposed to my long-time girlfriend, Jessica L. Heilig, on December 16th, 2011 and will marry her in August of 2013 after she completes her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Michigan-Flint.
